The Girls on the Run 5k and One Mile has a new course this year: scenic Town Point Park/Waterside in Downtown Norfolk. All proceeds from the race support the Girls on the Run Scholarship Fund which allows girls in financial need to participate in our program. Last year, we gave out $75,000 in scholarships to girls in financial need.

What is Girls on the Run? There are no other programs like the Girls on the Run program. We use running to teach very specific, well-defined social and personal skills. Development of these skills results in fewer adolescent pregnancies, fewer eating disorders, less depression and suicide attempts, fewer substance/alcohol abuse problems and fewer confrontations with the juvenile justice system. Girls on the Run is more than just a program. It is a philosophy. It is a way of being. And it works. It not only impacts the girls who participate, but supports efforts to provide an environment for ALL girls that nurture, develop, and celebrate their strengths.

The mission of Girls on the Run is to inspire young girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experienced-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. For more information about GOTR’s mission and program click here.

Girls on the Run 5k Run/Walk

This family-friendly run begins on Waterside Drive in front of Town Point Park, loops around Harbor Park, back up the scenic Waterside walkway, past the Battleship Wisconsin, through the pagoda an oriental gardens and back to Town Point Park. The course is scenic and enjoyable for the entire family.

1 Mile Fun Walk/Run

Those who are present to support their GOTR girl and want to exercise too are encouraged to participate in the one mile fun run/walk. Your registration also supports our scholarship fund.

On-site registration opens at 7am on Saturday, May 11th.

Packet Pick-Up -

Packet Pickup: Thursday, May 9 4-8pm Moe’s in Virginia Beach, Hilltop location. Come hungry because 10% of your order that night goes back to Girls on the Run! PHOTO ID required. If you can’t make it to packet pickup, you can pick up your packet race morning inside Town Point Park starting at 7am.

Parking:

City of Norfolk parking garages will be charging a $5 event parking rate. MacArthur garage is only $1 but is a bit of a hike to Town Point Park.

Unloading Zone:

The unloading zone for buses is Nauticus.

Finish Line Post-Race Activities:
