About Girls on the Run in South Hampton Roads (GOTRSHR)

  • Girls on the Run was started in South Hampton Roads in 2005. In the spring of 2006 GOTR SHR expanded to two schools in Norfolk, one in Virginia Beach and a Boys & Girls Club in Newport News. In the Spring of 2010, had 17 sites (18 teams) with 254 girls participating. For the Fall 2010, we have 17 Girls on the Run teams and 2 Girls on Track sites participating.
  • Through grant funds and donations, we consistently offer scholarships to an average of 55% of our girls.
  • The GOTR SHR Board has developed a plan to grow and will need funding to accomplish the Boards’ goals of steady growth, structured internal development, and participation from at-risk socio-economic groups.
